I wish I were a coffee drinker. For many reasons. Partly for the ceremony, the element of rising out of bed each morning to make a fresh pot of coffee. The aroma. The warm mug in my hands. The few minutes of sitting before starting the day. Partly for the social aspect. The coffee break. Even just with my husband before he starts his day. The meeting a friend for coffee. Say what you will but tea, hot chocolate, other fancy expensive beverages, just don't make the cut. They lack the simplicity that a cup of joe implies.
And the physical benefits. Some may disagree about the health benefits. But we know that coffee helps with regularity. And we know that coffee acts as a stimulant. Very appealing to this sleep deprived mama.
So why don't I drink coffee? I never acquired a taste for it. I didn't start when I was young. And then I became leery of the side affects. The addiction. I know very few people who can go without once they've started....though I've recently decided this is not necessarily a bad thing.
Alas, already in my thirties, it is unlikely that I will take it up in the near future. Kind of like Yoga which I love and WANT to do every morning but since I didn't take it up before the invasion (the addition of a baby), it has become complicated to add now. I occasionally manage to fit in a little bit of Yoga, some stretching or some Pilates with the assistance of my three year old but it seems a wasteful practice since I am invariably interrupted to assist with other activities in our household.
Perhaps I should have labelled this blog...the wish list.

Hey Shawna
Welcome to blog land!
I hear you on the coffee thing exactly. I'm a 'wanna be' coffee er too, and infact hang out in coffee shops with Noah while Jamie is in preschool, cradling my tea, pretending its coffee... sad I know :)
Enjoying your writing..keep it up!
