The Post Pretending to be Political

I might just be one of the most politically fickle people in the whole wide world. I have voted for every major political party in our Federal Government including the Green Party and the big three in our Provincial Government. My voting strategy is something like this...I vote for the candidate which appears to have the best interest of my riding at heart. Sometimes I know my vote is simply a vote against someone else, and once, I can even say that I voted for a candidate that I would not have voted for had the candidate truly been in a position to win.

One of my girlfriends, shortly after the American Presidential Election, updated her facebook status to comment on the lack of commentation from Canadians about their own elections compared to the large number of comments about the election south of the border. But the truth for me is that Canadians just aren't that interesting internationally. Not much changes, and not nearly as much needs to change...at least outwardly. Though if we weren't so busy trying to stay warm for six months out of the year, I think we might find more time to contemplate how much better things really could be with a little bit of effort and solid leadership.

And now here come the comments about our friendly southern neighbour....President-elect Barack Obama. Wow! How great that sounds. Alright, I know as far as foreign policy goes and what may be best for Canada economically would have been a win for Senator McCain. But somehow, I hold onto the hope that Mr. Obama will inspire the world, that's right, the whole world to make changes for the better, and to start at home. And now, The United States of America is cool again. Trendy. And that means the world will be watching for cues. That's a lot of pressure my American friends. Let's hope your new administration takes it seriously.
